Marist Young
Adult Program
One hundred
ninety-four
years ago today,
Marcellin
Champagnat met
Jean Baptiste
Montagne, a
dying young boy
who was ignorant
of his faith.
Marcellin's
encounter with
Jean Baptiste
confirmed his
desire to found
a group of
religious
brothers to make
Jesus Christ
known and loved
among poor
youth. To
commemorate this
anniversary, the
Marist Young
Adult Advisory
Committee is
proud to
introduce a
revised Marist
Young Adult
website.
The Marist Young
Adult program
continues to
keeping
Marcellin's
dream alive by
inviting
interested young
adults between
the ages of 18
and 30 to
further explore
their Christian
faith.
Through
spiritual,
social and
service
activities, both
online and in
person, young
adults can
experience an
alive and
vibrant faith
rooted in the
Marist
tradition.
Marist
Leadership
Institute
In order to
ensure the
mission of the
Marist Brothers
will continue to
be carried out
by lay teachers
and
administrators,
the Marist
Leadership
Institute was
created.
Each summer,
administrators
from Marist
schools around
the country come
together to
learn more about
being Marist,
connect with
others in the
Marist family,
and strengthen
their own
understanding of
what a Marist
school is.

The
Beatification of
the 47 Martyred
Brothers in
Spain
October 28, 2007
will mark an
important day in
the history of
the Marist
Brothers--the
beatification of
47 Brothers who
were killed in
Spain in 1936
during the
Spanish Civil
War.
Religion was
totally banned
in Spain until
the end of the
war in January
1939. The
Brothers
believed in
removing
themselves
completely from
the political
unrest that was
sweeping the
country and to
remain true to
their faith.
Beatification is
a declaration by
the Pope that
members of the
Church have
lived a saintly
live and are in
heaven.
Beatification
for martyrs does
not require
miracles.
The ceremony
will take place
in Rome in St.
Peter's
Basilica.
Nearly 500
martyrs from
this period of
Spain will be
beatified for
the religious
persecution they
endured.

of Marist
History, visit

International
Brothers' site.
There is also a
video (in
Spanish) on the
subject.
