Nine RedHawk journalists competed in 12 categories at IHSA sectionals on Saturday, April 21 and all nine placed in 11 categories. Congratulations to senior Stephanie Kozlowski (6th place-feature writing), junior Jenna Fessler (6th place-photo story telling), sophomore Cecelia Gibbons (5th place-editorial writing), and senior Jocelyn Diaz (4th place-advertising).

The six RedHawk journalists advancing to the IHSA state finals on Friday, April 27 at Eastern Illinois University are junior Georgia Lattas (sectional champion in copy editing), senior Jocelyn Diaz (2nd place-editorial cartooning), junior Gina Musso (2nd place-copy writing), junior Emma Brown (2nd place-review writing), senior Gianna Miritello (3rd place-sports writing), and senior Marty Buck (2nd place in both headline writing and caption writing).

Buck is the third RedHawk and first male in school history to make it to state in two categories. Bridget Tracy advanced in two categories in 2011 and Clare Gilligan in 2015. This is also the greatest number of Marist students to make it to the state journalism finals in school history.

For the second year in a row, the paper's staff placed fourth overall at sectionals against formidable competition.
