Marist Community

 

Marist will host its first ever Champagnat Day next Wednesday, April 18.  As part of the 24-hour giving event, students can dress down for a $5 donation that will be collected during homeroom.  Your shirt or sweatshirt must be a Marist shirt. If at least 400 students participate on Wednesday, a Marist alum will contribute $5,000 to the Marist Fund. 

 

Joe Flamm graduated from Marist in 2004 and he just won season 15 of Top Chef! If you want to be like Joe, stop by the ARC and check out our fantastic cookbook display! Try out something new and delicious!

 

Seniors your lock in forms are due in SLO today.  You need to turn a form in regardless if you are coming or not.

 

Junior prom table forms are due no later than Friday.  If you do not fill out a form you will be placed at a random table.

 

Junior prom shirts need to be picked up during lunch mods.

 

Students can also participate in Champagnat Day through the selfie challenges on Wednesday.  The best selfies in select categories will win fun prizes!  Check out the Marist website or social media pages for details.  And, we will be playing Champagnat Trivia on Tuesday during lunch mods.  Winning tables will receive free pizzas on Wednesday…and everyone will receive a free cookie!

Permission slips for the evening field trip to Northwestern medicine stroke unit on Thursday, April 26th are due back to Mrs. McArdle next Wednesday, April 18th. Need a permission form or more info? Stop by to see Mrs. McArdle in her office.

ATTENTIOIN JUNIOR AND SENIOR BOYS… The list of participants for next week’s Kairos Retreat is posted outside of Deacon Andy’s office. Please double check the list for your name and be sure to attend the MANDATORY information meeting on Friday immediately after school in the Chapel. The meeting will last 5 minutes.

 

Spring Band Concert

The Marist High School Band presents its 53rd annual Spring Concert on Saturday, April 14 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, April 15 at 3 p.m. in the school’s main gym. Tickets are $5.00 and are available at the door.  The band will be performing a variety of works that are guaranteed to help celebrate the arrival of Spring.  

Service hours opportunity….  There is a bags tournament with the residents of Smith Village today at 3:00. Please see Mrs. Pochyly for questions and permission forms.

Calling All Cooking Club Members! All groups will meet this Thursday, April 12th at 2:30 in the CAFÉ. Any questions? See Ms. Silva.

ITALIAN CLUB:  Buongiorno! Italian club is meeting this Thursday, April 12th, at 2:30 pm in the cafeteria to have a cup of hot chocolate directly from Italy! Make sure to bring your own mug.

Attention All RedHawk Rowdies: Tonight the girls soccer team takes on Mother McAuley here at Red and White Stadium at 4:30PM.  In honor of National Library Week, the teams will also be collecting Children’s books at the game.  Please consider donating a children’s book when you come!  Come enjoy the nice weather, help an amazing cause, and cheer on the RedHawks as they take on the Mighty Macs!!!

 

Last night, the boys volleyball program swept Maine South on all levels. Marty Jepsen had 12 kills and Rocky Mayer had 30 assists. Tonight the program travels to Sandburg.

All boys interested in the summer soccer camp or leagues offered, please see Coach Maxwell for a registration form.  The forms are due back by Thursday, April 19th.  The camp will be in early June and leagues will run in June and July.  Please see Coach Maxwell in room 106 for the registration form.

Congrats to the girls lacrosse program with their conference wins at both levels last night.  The varsity won in double overtime with Goalie Jenna Ford contributing 22 saves.  Gabby Colon had a massive offensive game along with Bridget O’Malley, and Nora McKeough. Top defensive efforts were given by Moira Touhy along with Cara Lundy, Taylor Nesbitt and Nora McKeough. Cece Schickel had the goal that put the game into overtime.

On Tuesday night, the Marist Boys Track and Field TEAM dominated the Benet Academy ESCC meet. Marist Sophomore Brian Ferguson won the 100m dash and 200m dash. Marist Senior Martin Smith won the 110m Hurdles. Marist Senior David Daniels won the Triple Jump. Marist Senior Steven Rowe won the High Jump. Marist Senior Alton Brooks, Sophomore Keyon Turner, Sophomore Nick Coccaro, and Senior Martin Smith won the 4x100m Relay. Marist Sophomore Brian Ferguson, Senior Justin Williams, Junior Tom Johnson, and Junior Kendric Nowling won the 4x200m Relay. Marist Sophomore Thomas Leonard won the 1600m run. The RedHawks will travel to Oak Lawn on Friday for the Spartan Invitational. A TEAM Pasta Party will take place in the Marist Cafeteria after practice on Thursday in preparation for the Spartan Invitational.

The boys JV tennis team opened their season yesterday with a 3-3 tie at Nazareth.  Winning at singles was Tyler Brenza.  Winning at doubles were the teams of Jack Santiago and Matt Schroeder, and Nick Alexander and Aidan Morrissey.
