“I know the plans I have for you says the Lord. They are plans for good, not for harm. To give you a hope and a future.”
What comforting words from Jeremiah. So much can shake our souls and our faith. Senseless terrorist attacks…the loss of a loved one…violence in neighborhoods…displaced refugees…so many hungry and homeless. So what is God saying to us? Like a loving parent, God reminds us that He is present and holding us close through all that saddens us. God weeps with His children when their hearts are broken but gives them the strength and the faith to lift up their hearts, and minds, and souls to that which is good and holy. More importantly, God gladdens the hearts of the faithful to persevere in good works, in the fight for justice and mercy, in the belief that God’s presence heals and prevails through all. There is no sorrow on earth that God cannot heal through the love He pours out in and through each of us. As Thanksgiving approaches, let us echo this response from Mass: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. IT IS RIGHT AND JUST. Trust in God’s presence to uphold you through every moment and every experience of your life. God is good always and in all ways.
