Journalists head to state

Marist journalists made history at the IHSA journalism sectionals on April 13 and will compete at state on Friday, April 26

For the first time in program history, there were four sectional champions: senior Georgia Lattas in feature writing, senior Carolyn Yusa in sports writing and senior Gina Musso in both news and copy writing. Lattas is also advancing to state with her second place finish in copy editing, as is senior Jenna Fessler after taking second in photo story telling. Also placing at sectionals were junior Cecelia Gibbons (fifth place-editorial writing) and sophomore Grace Molenhouse with fourth place in advertising and editorial cartooning.

Marist took fourth place overall as a team for the third consecutive year in a very competitive sectional.

The IHSA state competition will be held at Heartland Community College in Normal on Friday, April 26.
