Giving Tuesday

Our hearts are filled with gratitude on this #ThankYouWednesday as our alumni, family and friends responded to our call to share their time, talent and treasure with us on #GivingTuesdayTHANK YOU for sharing your #givingstories and #unselfies. THANK YOU for sharing your talent through the Explore Program. And, most of all, THANK YOU for your generosity – 55 donors contributed $8,320 as part of our #GivingTuesday challenge. We appreciate your support!

On Tuesday, November 27, Marist High School will be celebrating #GivingTuesday, a day dedicated to philanthropy, volunteerism and community service.  It is a day for our alumni, students, faculty, staff and parents to give whatever they are able to give – be it their time, talent or treasure.  #GivingTuesday demonstrates how every act of generosity counts, and that they mean even more when we give together.

This #GivingTuesday, in light of Marist’s 55th anniversary, our goal is to inspire 55 of our alumni, family or friends to give $55, or more, to the Marist Fund.   Each contribution is the answer to many of our financial needs at Marist – the opportunity to modernize our campus, to ensure qualified and passionate teachers are educating our students, and to provide those who cannot afford a Marist education the opportunity to join the Marist family, now and forever.

IMG_5094By participating in #GivingTuesday, you are carrying our students forward and helping them see that they are a part of something bigger than themselves.  All of us must see ourselves as inheritors of the legacy of the founding community of Marist Brothers and lay people who began this very special school 55 years ago. We stand on their shoulders, and we must offer our shoulders to those who will come after us. Share your talent with us through the Explore Program, which provides unique opportunities for students to consider careers through internships, special events, and professional resources.

IMG_3011Every day, not just on #GivingTuesday, the work that students and staff do within the Campus Ministry programs is at the heart of Marist’s mission to make Jesus known and loved. It is at the very core of our work that students not just know the Catholic religion, but live the faith! Each activity helps us to “serve the least favored” and strengthen our special devotion to our Mother Mary. Join in this spirit by committing to do at least one random act of kindness on or around #GivingTuesday.

Ward_UNselfieRegardless of how you choose to participate in #GivingTuesday, share the powerful, positive role that giving plays in our world by sharing an #unselfie on your favorite social media site.  To take an #unselfie, all you have to do is write on a piece of paper why and/or how you support Marist High School, hold the sign in front of you, snap your #unselfie, and post the picture on your social media accounts.  Be sure to include #unselfie, #givingtuesday, #maristchicago, and tag us on Twitter @maristHSalumni, Facebook @MaristChicagoAlumni and Instagram @MaristChicago.
