Fresh from the program's first-ever conference championship, the girls’ track and field team finished second in the Reavis sectional; the team's best finish ever.
Additionally, the RedHawks secured tickets for the state finals in three events. The 4 x 800 relay of Nora McClorey, Brigid Englehart, Baily Butler, and Amanda Tracy ran a season best time and placed second. In the 4 x 100 relay team of Payton Ross, Ashlin Palzkill, Grace Misiunas, and Kaylin Strahan set a new school record. They placed second and are in the state finals. Kaylin Strahan also showed her sprint dominance as she secured first place in both the 100m and 200m.
Also, medaling were Nora McClorey in the 800m, Yasmine Evans in the high jump, and Katie O’Brien in the pole vault. Special shout out to Ashlin Palzkill who placed fourth in the high hurdles and third in the low hurdles and Grace Misiunas placed third in the high hurdles and fourth in the low hurdles.
The IHSA state final takes place May 16 through 18 at Eastern Illinois University. Check the webpage for details and follow the team on Twitter.
