From the IHSA...
IHSA Member School Administrators,
More detailed into to follow later today, but three major points from this morning’s IHSA Board meeting to share with, as well as for you to pass along to your coaches.
1) IHSA Spring State Tournaments are canceled.
2) But the Board is open to allowing spring sport game competition if/when the state deems it safe, and have placed no date parameters on that possibility at this time.
3) Summer Contact Days are suspended as well for the time being. More guidance to come on this as we work with the state and ISBE.
A MESSAGE FROM MARIST ATHLETIC DIRECTOR
It is with great disappointment that we learned today, that the IHSA spring state series has been cancelled. On behalf of our coaches and the entire Marist Community, I would like to convey sympathy to RedHawk spring sport athletes but above all, we pray that your Family is blessed with fortitude and good health during this difficult time.
We are especially proud of the accomplishments and leadership of our graduating seniors throughout their athletic careers. Last year alone, the Marist class of 2020 were among the student – athletes that contributed to the IHSA boys’ volleyball state championship, softball and bass fishing state finals appearances, a baseball super – sectional, and many more team and individual athletic achievements than we are able to note here. Based on your considerable physical gifts, hard work and dedication, we know that our seniors were poised to lead our spring sports teams to similar heights and our hearts go out to you at this moment.
I want to commend our seniors on their leadership throughout the pre-season and during this difficult hiatus from activity. Our coaches and I will find ways to honor your significant contributions to our programs over the coming weeks. Spring sport seniors will be eligible for ESCC all – academic honors. In addition, we are currently receiving athletic bios from any student - athlete committing to a college athletic program during the current NCAA spring signing period. Please contact your coach, if you will be competing on a college athletic team but have yet to be recognized by Marist.
As it relates to on-going college recruitment, we are advising Marist student – athletes to be proactive in communicating with college coaching staffs and providing requested recruiting materials. Our coaches and athletic department are available should your Family require any assistance in the recruiting process.
Not surprisingly, Marist student – athletes have shown great courage and discipline by staying fit, involved, and ready to compete. I am asking our athletic staff to continue their virtual coaching and online engagement with our teams. I hope all of our student – athletes including seniors, will continue to participate in team communications and athletic activity. I hope the lessons in resilience that you have learned on the courts, track, or playing fields are a support to you now. It is our belief that we are better together; supporting one another to stay physically strong and mentally tough as we face the daily adversities of the pandemic.
All the best to you and your family, Marist RedHawks.
