Marist Athletics Update Phase I

Dear Marist families,

As I am sure you are aware, high schools and youth sports organizations around the country are beginning to return to athletics. At Marist, we are targeting Monday, June 22, 2020 for a limited return to athletics on our campus.

Due to strict limitations, we are prioritizing fall sports teams and returning senior and junior student participation for IHSA Stage 1 (current stage) athletic activity.  The philosophy of Stage 1 summer athletic activity is to provide students and coaches an opportunity to reconnect and physically condition.  The IHSA guidelines for Stage 1 activity can be found here.

The following Marist fall sports teams have chosen to participate in Stage 1 activity: Boys’ Cross Country, Sideline Cheer, Football, Boys’ Soccer, and Girls’ Volleyball.  As noted earlier, we will begin with seniors and juniors and are hopeful that all student-athletes, including incoming freshmen, will be able to participate in summer athletic activity should less restrictive guidelines come into effect.

Online registration is required in order to participate in any summer athletic activity at Marist.  Registration via 8to18 is open for ALL sports here.

During Stage 1, coaches will assign registered student-athletes to groups of nine or fewer on a “first-registered, first-served” basis. The number of students permitted to participate will be subject to the number of Marist coaches available for supervision. Unfortunately, due to restrictions, not all registered student may be able to participate in Stage 1 activity.

Some coaches or athletes may choose to continue preparing for their season at home via virtual meetings and personal workouts. Summer activity is never mandatory and participation cannot be held against any coach or student-athlete.

Participating students and coaches are required to adhere Marist’s Stage 1 Summer Activity Guidelines found here.

We plan on hosting summer athletic activity for incoming students and all of our returning students should the IHSA lift the suspension on athletic "summer contact" days.  We believe there is potential for this to happen in July, should Illinois progress to Stage 4 of the Restore Plan and the IHSA allow Stage 2 activity.  We will communicate additional summer athletic opportunities for more of our students via email and website/social media posts, if and when they are permitted.

Please note that physicals from last school year will be honored until the IHSA announces new guidelines.

We look forward to welcoming student-athletes back on the Marist campus soon.  Feel free to email me if you have any questions.
