Four Marist High School seniors participated in a National Letter of Intent signing ceremony on Wednesday, February 7 in the school’s RedHawk Theater. The event confirmed their plans to continue their academic and athletic careers at the college level.
Tommy Greene will continue his academic and athletic career at Indiana University in Bloomington. Greene was the 2017 East Suburban Catholic Conference (ESCC) co-offensive lineman of the year, 2017 Illinois High School Football Coaches’ Association (IHSFCA) honorable mention all-state, 2017 ESCC all-conference team, and 2017 Chicago Tribune/Daily Southtown second team all-area selection.
Danny Meehan will attend and play for University of Dayton. Meehan was the 2017 ESCC all-conference linebacker, 2017 IHSFCA academic all-state selection, 2017 Marist most improved defensive player, and served as a team captain.
Tom Gillen and Joe Green will continue to be teammates at St. Ambrose University in Iowa. Gillen was the 2016 ESCC all-conference kicker and a three-year varsity starter. He made the game winning field goal in the first round of playoffs at Notre Dame with no time left on the clock in 2015. He kicked field goals in three straight playoff wins in games decided by 3 points or less in Marist’s 2015 playoff run. Green was the starting right tackle for 2017 Class 8A quarterfinalist RedHawks and one of the leaders of the offensive line. He showed tremendous improvement between junior year and senior year helping the team to great success.
More commitments are expected as the school year continues. Marist is a member of the competitive East Suburban Catholic Conference and its athletes and teams regularly garner success at the local and state levels.
