Softball heads to state

Marist softball will compete in the IHSA final four June 7 and 8. The RedHawks will face Huntley on Friday at 5:30 p.m. at East Side Center in East Peoria.

With a win Friday, the team advances to the state championship game on Saturday versus the winner of the Joliet West/St. Charles East game at 3:30 p.m. at the same facility. A consolation game will be held at 1 p.m.

The team defeated Proviso West and Lyons to capture the regional title. They beat Sandburg and Riverside-Brookfield to nab the sectional title before defeating Geneva in the supersectional game. Marist softball won state titles in 2012 and 2015.

Tickets are $6 per person per game and will be sold at the gate and are available online. All games this weekend can be streamed online for a fee. Get details about the tournament on the IHSA website and follow the team on Twitter.
