ATTENTION JUNIORS… What are you doing on the last Monday of April? Why not treat yourself to something special and sign up for the spring Junior Retreat! It’s one day… all day… and will be well-worth your time away from it all! See Deacon Andy in the Main Office for a registration form.

Tickets for The Sound of Music (March 28-30) are available for purchase before, during and after school in the ARC.  Tickets are $5-student and $10 general.

Students in AP Physics this year and next year are reminded that permission slips for the field trip to Argonne are due to Mr. Lesher or Mrs. McArdle  by TOMORROW! If you need a copy, please see Mrs. McArdle in the Explore office today or send her an e-mail.

 

Save the date for two march Hawk Talks -- next Wednesday, March 27th at 6pm in the ARC alum Bernadette Heitschmidt '12 will discuss adjusting to college, sharing her insights from her work in residence life at Marquette and Northern Illinois. Upperclassmen and parents are encouraged to attend!

 

Next Thursday, March 28th three engineers Marist parent Greg McCalin, alum Kevin Slanicky '95, and Tom Ratajczek '98 will discuss different career paths in engineering during lunch mods in the main office conference room. E-mail Mrs. McArdle to reserve your spot. As always, pizza and treats will be served and space is limited. 

 

 

Clubs

There will be a Mock Trial meeting on Wednesday, 3/20 after school from 2:45-3:45 in room 113.

 

Calling all Chefs! Group 1 will meet on Tuesday, March 19th at 2:30 in the CAFE.

 

Sports

The RedHawk wrestlers were busy over the break competing at the Frosh-Soph State Tournament in Springfield Illinois. Three of the five qualifying wrestlers earned medals

while the other two also won matches. Placing 8th was Bobby Gaylord. Winning 4th place honors was Tommy Boland and earning a 2nd place finish was Ghee Rachel. Congratulations wrestlers!

 

RedHawk Wrestler Michael Leveille also competed this past weekend representing the State of Illinois at the Illinois/Indiana dual meet competition. Michael defeated his opponent by a 12 to 9 score. Great job Michael!

 

On Saturday, the Marist Boys Track and Field Team traveled to the University of Illinois Armory for the Gene Armer Invitational. The meet featured 95 high schools (55 Girls Teams and 40 Boys Teams, and 916 athletes. Marist finished in fifth place! Medal Winners for the RedHawks included: Brian Ferguson (400m - 2nd place), Jovan Marsh (60m dash - 2nd place, 200m dash - 2nd place), and Thomas Leonard (3200m run - 2nd place, 1600m run - 5th place). Marist Freshman Andrew Kerlin, Senior Lucas Pennix, Senior Alexis Arreola, and Junior Caleb Davis ran a season best 8:56 in the 4x800m Relay. Marist Freshman Tucker Miller, Freshman Michael Coy, Senior Tom Johnson, and Sophomore Nick Coccaro posted 17 victories in the 4x200m Relay with an outstanding time of 1:39. The RedHawks will travel to the Sophomore Indoor Championships on Wednesday, and the Indoor State Championships (Illinois Prep Top Times) on Saturday. A mandatory TEAM meeting will take place in the cafeteria at 2:45 pm on Monday.

Any girls interested in playing volleyball next fall there will be a mandatory 5 minute meeting after school on Tuesday in the small gym

 

On Wednesday the boys’ volleyball team opens up the 2019 season at home vs top 10 ranked Sandburg at 6pm.  Before the game, the girls team will be honored on State Championship Ring Night.

 

All wrestlers are reminded that the 2019 banquet is tomorrow, Tuesday, March 19 at Gaelic Park beginning at 6 p.m. Dress code is a shirt and tie. If you have not already RSVP’d, please see Coach Heffernan today. Wrestling strength and conditioning workouts begin today at 3 p.m. Please meet in the wrestling room.
