Daily Announcements 9/24/18

Attention Freshmen, if you are interested in running for Student Council there will be a mandatory meeting after school in the theatre this Wednesday. If you plan on running you have to be there. If you have any questions see Mr. Brennan in the Student Life Office.

Senior and Junior girls interested in Powder Puff Football, there will be a mandatory meeting before school tomorrow at 7:15 AM. Seniors will meet in the theater and juniors will meet in the main gym. Again, these meetings are mandatory if you want to play. See Mr. Brennan in the SLO if you have any questions.

ATTENTION JUNIORS… GUYS AND GIRLS… We need you too! Now is the time to sign up for one of the two Junior Retreats in October or April. Permission forms are in the Student Life Office, with Mr. Ryan in Guidance, and in Deacon Andy’s office. Sign up NOW!

ATTENTION SENIOR BOYS... today is the deadline to turn in your October Boys Kairos retreat permission forms to either Mr. Brennan in the Student Life Office or to Deacon Andy in the Main Office. A final list of participants will be posted tomorrow, and all participants MUST ATTEND a brief meeting tomorrow, Tuesday, immediately after school in the Chapel. Final instructions will be given at that time.

Are you interested in becoming a lawyer? Sign up for Lunch & Law, an in-school Hawk Talk with alum Colleen Couture '10 who is a third-year law student at Northwestern, during lunch mods on Monday, October 15th. Lunch will be provided. Sign up in Mrs. McArdle's office. 

Are you interested in pursuing a career in the medical field? Join the Explore Program for a field trip to Northwestern Medicine for a behind-the-scenes look in the evening on October 25th! Get a permission slip from the Explore office. Space is limited. 

Attention all SOPHOMORES Student Ambassadors:


There will be a meeting Thursday, September 27, immediately after school in the Theatre.  We will be discussing Open House and other upcoming events. All sophomore student ambassadors should be in attendance.  The meeting will conclude at 2:45 p.m.  See Mrs. Brown with any questions.

The chess team will have practice this Tuesday in room 125 at 2:30.  All returning and new members are asked to attend.

First full team meeting for the Speech and Acting Team will take place today, Monday, September 24 right after school in Room 128, and there will be an information parent meeting on September 26 at 7 PM, also in Room 128. New and returning members are welcome. See Ms. Paoletti in Room 128 with any questions.

Are you interested in public affairs, current events and debate?  Come to room 226 after school today (Monday) to learn about congressional style debate.

Ciao! Italian club is this Thursday and every Thursday at 2:30 in Room 223. We have a lot of fun, so make sure you stop by!

Anime Club is this Thursday after school in Room 213. All are welcome.


On Saturday, Marist Junior Thomas Leonard finished second overall at the Tinley Park Cross Country Invitational with an official time of 15:45. Junior Caleb Davis finished second for the RedHawks with an official time of 17:32. Senior Colin Tracy, Junior Luke Hortsman, and Senior Andres Castillo completed the scoring for the Varsity Men. Marist posted 9 victories at the Tinley Park Invitational. In the Sophomore race, Freshman Brendan Geary (18:07), Freshman Luke Malzone (18:42), Freshman Andrew Kerlin (18:42.7), and Sophomore Tommy Wagner (18:44), helped the RedHawks post 8 victories at the Tinley Park Invitational.


RedHawks Hockey:

This weekend both Varsity and JV RedHawks Hockey Teams traveled to the University of Notre Dame for the Irish South Bend Hockey Tournament and came away with outstanding results!  


Your Varsity RedHawks played valiantly this weekend. Hard work, grit and determination, especially in the grueling best of 3 games round, earned the RedHawks a 2nd place finish in the tournament! Great job guys! 


The Championship game of the Irish South Bend Tournament at the University of Notre Dame found your JV RedHawks trailing Team Michiana, an all-star travel team comprised of 6 different teams, 5-1 in the 3rd period. Your RedHawks fiercely fought back!      Brendan Sise (Tournament MVP) added 2 goals quickly in the 3rd period to his initial goal scored in the 2nd period, to earn himself a “Hat Trick” and to make the score 5-3! Nathan Hornik scored at 1:55 in the third to close the gap 5-4! Jack Christie scored with :38 seconds left to tie the game 5-5! A 5 minute “Sudden Death” overtime ensued with 4 skaters per team.  SHAZAM! The game winning goal was scored by Jack Molenhouse at 2:57 of overtime and the the crowd went wild on the effort as your RedHawks scored 4 goals in the last 3 minutes of the game to earn the tournament Championship!  Outstanding performance! Way to go RedHawks!

Last Saturday, in the women’s cross-country 17 team Tinley Park Invite your RedHawks won the tournament.  Senior captain Jillian Borza placed 3rd improving her time.  Nora McClorey was 2nd.  Also medaling were Amanda Tracy in 7th, Lindsey Richter in 10th, and Lilly Roche in 13th.  Nora McNicholas took 4th place paced the Frosh/Soph Team took home a 3rd place trophy!  In the open race, Bailey Buter, Colleen Murphy and Brigid Englehart were 1, 2 and 3rd!
