Campus Ministry is excited to kick off this year's Thanksgiving food drive! Marist's annual collection helps hundreds of local families, veterans, and the elderly. The school community's support of this worthy cause is appreciated and makes a huge impact on those in need.
There's a new twist on this year's drive. The halls of Marist have been transformed into the world of Harry Potter, the popular book series that has been made into movies. Characters, quotes, scenes and more have come to life as RedHawks make the hunger drive magical.
The school will mirror the Hogwars School of Witchcraft and Wizardry with the grades divided into four houses from the book series. The freshmen will represent Hufflepuff, the sophomores are Slytherin, the juniors are Ravenclase, and the seniors represent Gryffindoor.
Students from each grade level are encouraged to donate items from their designated house list. The faculty will participate as well. There will be activities and games leading up to a rally on November 17--the day all donations are due in the cafeteria.
When a student or teacher donates 8 items their name will be written down and placed into their specific “Goblet of Fire”. These students will have the chance to participate in our Harry Potter themed rally before Thanksgiving break.
Hunger is something that affects many people-even close to home. More than 49 million Americans struggle to put food on the table. This is often times despite working one or more jobs.
Marist's collection will benefit Little Sisters of the Poor, Chicago Veterans, and St. Terrence food pantry in Alsip.
For more information, students can see Mr. Meyer or Ms. Pochyly.
