Thanksgiving Food Drive

May good food be ever on your table!

Campus Ministry is excited to kick off this year's Thanksgiving food drive! Marist's annual collection helps hundreds of local families, veterans and the elderly. The school community's support of this worthy cause is appreciated and makes a huge impact on those in need.

The-Hunger-GamesThere's a new twist on this year's drive. The halls of Marist have been transformed into The Hunger Games, the popular book series that has been made into movies. Characters, quotes, scenes and more have come to life as RedHawks turn The Hunger Games into the Hunger Drive.

Students from each grade level are encouraged to donate items from their designated list. The faculty will participate as well. For every six items a student brings in, he or she will be entered into "the reaping"-a lottery from the book series. For every ten items the student brings in, he or she will both enter the reaping and receive a golden mockingjay pin-an important symbol in the book series. Names will then be pulled in the reaping for students to participate in The Hunger Games themed rally on November 20.

All food items should be dropped off in the cafeteria by November 19.

In addition to the food collection, Demon Dawgs, 11541 S. Pulaski, will donate 10% of proceeds from November 19. This money will be used to purchase turkeys for families in need. Just present this form when you make your purchase that day.

Hunger is something that affects many people-even close to home. More than 49 million Americans struggle to put food on the table. This is often times despite working one or more jobs. Marist students attended a presentation on November 3 to learn about the reality of hunger in America, and to learn more about the organizations their donations will help. Marist's collection will benefit Little Sisters of the Poor, Chicago Veterans, and St. Terrence food pantry in Alsip.
