Proverbs come in all shapes and sizes and from all sorts of different sources. For example, what we call the Old Testament contains a collection of Hebrew proverbs. Native Americans have proverbs too. So do the Irish. This one comes from ancient China...
"It is not what we eat but what we digest that makes us Strong;
not what we gain but what we save that makes us Rich;
not what we read but what we remember that makes us Learned;
and not what we profess but what we practice that makes us Honorable."
