Today in the Church is they Feast Day of the Guardian Angels… a day to be thankful that we do not walk alone in our spiritual lives.
Today we hold in our prayers the victims of the mass shooting last night in Las Vegas, Nevada. For those who were killed, we commend their souls into the hands of our Father in heaven. And for the physically and emotionally wounded we pray for healing and restoration.
We also pray for an end to violence in our world, not just far away, but close to home as well. May the Prince of Peace triumph over the forces of evil.
Good and gracious God,
we dream of a world free of violence as we pray for peace.
When our hearts ache for the victims of senseless shootings,
help us to remember that your son healed people simply by knowing them.
Give us faith in our ability to comfort and heal bodies and minds and spirits
that have been broken by violence.
Your son Jesus taught us to love one another,
to love both the neighbor and the enemy.
In times of violence and fear,
let the peace of Christ rule in our hearts,
so that we may not be overcome by evil
but may overcome evil with good.
Lord, put away the nightmare of terror
and awaken us to the dawning of a new creation.
Establish among us once and for all a nation where peace reigns,
where all life is cherished, and where justice prevails through mercy.
