Do you have your umbrella?
As a drought continued for what seemed like an eternity, a small community of farmers was in trouble and didn’t know what to do. Rain was essential to keeping their crops healthy and sustaining their way of life. As the problem became more and more serious, a local priest called the entire town to come to church and pray.
Many people arrived at the church to pray for the needed rain and the priest greeted them as they filed in. As he walked up to the front of the church to begin the prayer service he noticed that most people were chatting across the aisles and socializing with their friends. When he reached the front of the church, his thoughts were on quieting the crowd down and starting the prayer.
His eyes scanned the church as he asked for quiet. Then he noticed a nine year-old girl sitting quietly in the front pew. Her face was beaming with excitement. Next to her, open and ready for use, was a very large and colorful umbrella, much larger than her in fact. The little girl's innocence made the priest smile as he realized how much faith she brought with her.
Everyone came to pray for rain, but no one thought to bring an umbrella.
Only the little girl came expecting God to answer… Do you have your umbrella?
