Never put your gifts away!
This weekend we celebrated the Feast of the Epiphany. Growing up in my house, that usually meant that it was time to take down the Christmas decorations, throw out the tree, and put away our gifts. How sad for a day when the Church gives us a beautiful story about gift-giving.
We should never put our gifts away! The Feast reminds us that we are an epiphanal people... people for whom God has revealed himself to be one of us, part of us, and for us… all of us. And rather than putting our gifts away, we should be more like the wise men, or the kings, or the magicians, or whoever they were, asking ourselves... what gifts do I have to offer Jesus? You may not have any gold, frankincense, or myrrh, but you do have a Voice, and Actions that speak even louder than your words, and you can make a Commitment.
Those sound like excellent gifts to me... and to Jesus too, I'm sure. Bring them. Offer them. Perfect them. Just don't put them away!
