Monday Minute 8-31-20

I have no idea where I am going…

Thomas Merton, the Trappist monk, theologian, and mystic, never had to navigate through a COVID pandemic. But he was born into the middle of WWI and the Spanish Flu, lived through the Great Depression, WWII, the Korean War, the Polio Epidemic, and most of the Vietnam Conflict. He knew plenty about trusting God.

Here’s what he was saying then, which is just as poignant for us now…

"My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road though I may know nothing about it. Therefore I will trust you always… I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone."

As this most unusual school year unfolds, as in all things, let’s put our trust in Him who knows everything about us and what we’re going through. And let’s have a great year!

This Monday Minute is from Deacon Andy Neu, currently listening to We Won’t Be Shaken by Building 429. Listen in at
