Marist High School will hold is annual Relay for Life supporting the American Cancer Society on Saturday, March 2, 2019 from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. on March 3.
The committee will sponsor a kick-off week February 11-14. On Monday they will sell slices of crispy bacon at lunch to "fry" cancer. There will be games and events all week in the cafeteria and on Wednesday there will be ice cream sundaes for sale. Relay committee members will be available to assist in the sign-up process all week.
During the March event speakers will reflect on cancer's impact on their lives, a memorial service will be held, and other educational events will take place. Additionally, there will be games, music, and entertainment to keep everyone's energy high! Many students participate in small groups, and set up "camps" in the gym.
In advance of the event, there was a dress down day on Friday, February 8. Students were invited to dress down and wear purple for $3. In all, $4,500 was raised and was added to Marist's overall donation to the cause.
In just seven years, Marist has raised nearly $350,000 through this event. Marist is also the only Catholic school in Illinois to host its own Relay for Life. This event is planned and run by a committee of students who are dedicated to the cause.
Students who participate are asked to raise $110 in donations. Students can register online. See Coach Brennan or Ms. Pochyly for more information.
