Milestone Signing Ceremony
Marist High School held a ceremony at the school on Thursday, December 13, to mark a milestone in the science wing construction taking place on campus. Major donors to the campaign and school leadership signed a beam that will be installed at the highest point of the planetarium dome. The moment signified the transition from exterior construction on the project to interior work.
John and Laura Potocsnak and Gerald ’90 and Jennifer Beeson were early investors in the Faith in the Future Campaign, which will transform the school’s monastery into a 10-lab science wing with a planetarium dome. Their belief in the project spurred on the campaign, which has a total goal of $15 million. “Today we recognize two generous benefactors of Marist High School and of the science project,” Marist President Br. Hank Hammer, FMS, said of the two couples who are current Marist parents. “They are builders of visions and dreams. Without them and their kindness, we would not be here today.”
Br. Hank acknowledged the architects, builders, and trades people whose talents and skills are transforming Marist’s dreams into reality. He also acknowledged the many other generous donors who have invested in the future of Marist through this campaign, as well as the many school employees who have contributed to the planning and execution of the project.
St. Marcellin Champagnat, founder of the Marist Brothers, was a builder himself. Br. Hank pointed out that Marcellin’s favorite Psalm was, “If the Lord does not build the house, then in vain do the builders labor.” “Our new science center is not just a place to learn science,” Br. Hank said. “It is a place to learn science in the context of faith. Today we are signing a piece of the dome that will go at the highest point of the science center – the part closest to God.”
The campaign recently reached the $11 million mark. Efforts are underway to secure the remaining $4 million in order to ensure the facility is ready to open by August 2019. Every gift to the project is crucial and appreciated.
