Late Work
Late work (formative/summative) will be accepted by all teachers through the close of the unit, which should be posted on Canvas and communicated to students. Point deduction for late work may be 10% per day not to exceed a 30% deduction of total points.
Gradebook Organization
– The overall semester grade will be comprised of the following weighted categories: 40% formative, 50% summative, 10% semester exam
Formative assessment – An ongoing process in which teachers use a wide variety of methods to evaluate student comprehension, learning needs, and academic progress during a lesson, unit, or course. Formative assessments help teachers identify concepts that students are struggling to understand, skills they are having difficulty acquiring, or learning standards they have not yet achieved so that adjustments can be made to lessons, instructional techniques, and academic support.
Summative assessments – Used to evaluate student learning progress, achievement and mastery at the conclusion of a specific instructional period.

Retake Opportunities
With a belief that we are always learning and growing, all students will be given the opportunity to retake one summative assessment per semester. Teachers do not need to include projects or labs as options for retakes. If higher, the retake grade will replace the initial summative assessment grade.
Extra Credit: Extra credit is not considered best practice
*Extenuating circumstances will be determined by the Dean of Student Success in conjunction with the Director of Counseling, Counselors and/or administration and may impact the aforementioned policies.
Incoming Freshman Summer
Academic Program
Marist offers a variety of classes to help prepare incoming freshmen for their high school academic experience. The courses listed here are open to all incoming freshmen to help them get a head start for academics at the high school level. Registration takes place at the beginning of April.
