Placement Exams

World Language Placement Exams

Students who have taken French or Spanish in grammar school and have been placed in French 1 or Spanish 1 Academic are eligible to take a language placement exam to be considered for Honors placement in French or Spanish.  The exam will be administered by a member of the Language Department and will include a multiple-choice section, a written section and a listening section.  The exam will last approximately 60 minutes and students will need a pencil and a pen.

Spanish and French Placement exam dates and times:

  • Saturday, March 13 - 10 to 11 a.m.
  • Saturday, March 20 - 10 to 11 a.m.
  • Monday, March 22 - 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, March 24 - 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Please enter through the main office entrance at the west end of the building. Students must wear a mask and bring a completed health form.

World Languages for Spanish Speakers

Is Spanish already spoken at home? Why not enroll your child in the Italian or French class? Or if you prefer, why not consider a Spanish class for Spanish speakers?

Next school year (2021-2022), Marist High School will implement a class for students considered to be “Heritage Speakers” whose families speak Spanish.  An aptitude test is required to enroll in Spanish-speaking classes. No test is needed if you choose to enroll in Italian or French classes.

Heritage Speaker Placement exam dates and times:

  • Saturday, March 13 - 10 to 11 a.m.
  • Saturday, March 20 - 10 to 11 a.m.
  • Monday, March 22 - 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, March 24 - 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Math

Students admitted to the class of 2025 are encouraged to complete an additional math placement exam which is designed and corrected by our Math Department faculty members.  If your math placement indicated “to be determined” you are required to take this exam.  The exam will last approximately ninety minutes and students will need a pencil and a pen. No calculator needed. 

Math placement exam dates:

  • Dates:  March 9, March 10, March 11, March 15, March 16 - 3:30 to 5 p.m.
  • Date:  Saturday, March 27 - 8:30 to 10 a.m.

Please enter through the Main Office entrance at the west end of the building. Students must wear a mask and bring a completed health form.                                                                                   

 

Registration for any of the placement exams must be completed by March 4.
