Marist High School is proud to announce that seniors Philip Haddad (Jerling Junior High) and Owen Murphy (St. Barnabas) were elevated to National Merit Finalists by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation in Evanston, Ill. In September 2024, Philip and Owen were recognized as a National Merit Semifinalist. Semifinalists advance to Finalist standing in the competition by meeting high academic standards and all other requirements.

Approximately 1.6 million entrants are screened each year by the National Merit Scholarship Program after taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®). There are approximately 16,000 National Merit Semifinalists in the U.S. and they must advance to Finalist standing in the competition by meeting high academic standards and all other requirements. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered next spring.
