Along with the Chick Evans Scholarship, Hector was recently named a Posse Scholar, a full-tuition merit scholarship awarded to a high school student identified for their leadership potential and academic promise.
“Being named both an Evans and Posse Scholar is extremely meaningful to me because I was recognized for the work my family and I have put into my education and motivated me to keep striving for excellence. They give me the opportunity to chase my goals with confidence and purpose,” said Hector.

Olubukola is a graduate of Veterans Memorial Middle School. She is the Student Council Vice President. Olubukola is on the Green Team Executive Board, the Book Club Co-President, and Student Ambassadors Officer. She’s also on the speech team, track team, manager of the hockey team, Marist Youth, Black Student Union., National Honor Society, and French National Honor Society.
“When I found out I got the Evans I was shocked. Getting the Evans has always been a dream since I started caddying but it always felt like a distant dream and now it has come through and I am just so thankful for everyone that has supported me,” said Olubukola.
Marist High School boasts 201 Chick Evans Scholars in its school history. The Chick Evans Caddie Scholarship provides full tuition and college housing for golf caddies, and is renewable for up to four years. To be eligible to apply for the scholarship, all applicants must have a strong caddie record, excellent academics, demonstrated financial need, and outstanding character. Applicants are evaluated and compete on the above criteria for the limited number of awards given annually.
Caddies throughout mostly the Midwest can apply for the Chick Evans Scholarship from the Evans Scholars Foundation of the Wester Golf Association. In order to apply, they need a recommendation form the caddie master at their respective country club where they caddy. Applicants must also show a certain level of financial need, and they must have a strong academic record and distinct leadership qualities.
Applicants have an initial interview with the Chick Evans committee. From there only 280 caddies are chosen for the scholarship. Students give a list of four schools they would like to attend in order of preference and the committee makes the final determination on where they send the winners.
Congratulations to Hector and Olubukola! Best of luck in your future endeavors.
