Student Spotlight: Erin Trapani ’27 Shines at DePaul Journalism Camp
This summer, Marist senior Erin Trapani ’27 took her love for storytelling to the next level by earning a coveted spot at DePaul University’s inaugural High School J-Days Camp. The two-day program, hosted by the DePaul Center for Journalism Integrity & Excellence, brought together 21 high school students from across the Chicago area for hands-on training in journalism.
Erin was selected through her application essay and immediately stood out once on campus. The camp offered students the chance to sharpen their skills in writing, interviewing, and photojournalism. They also gained rare access to professionals from top outlets including the Chicago Tribune, ABC, CBS, and NBC, and participated in panel discussions with DePaul students, graduates, and faculty.
Reflecting on the experience, Erin said, “I loved this camp.”
Her enthusiasm did not go unnoticed. Award-winning journalist and camp co-founder Don Moseley described her as an ideal participant:
“We were impressed by Erin’s enthusiasm, her total involvement, and her willingness to learn. The purpose of the camp was to help high school students prepare for college journalism. To that end, we watched her take notes, ask questions, and absorb things put before her. Should she consider this path into college, we believe Erin will be well prepared to take the next step.”
At Marist, Erin has benefited from the strong foundation provided by the school’s journalism program, led by Ms. Carlson. The program’s reputation for preparing students to pursue collegiate-level journalism was highlighted throughout the camp, and Erin’s performance further underscored Marist’s excellence in this area.
We are incredibly proud of Erin for representing Marist with such distinction at DePaul. Her hard work, passion, and curiosity are exactly what Faith, Family, Future is all about.
